Liverpool 5 Swansea 0 Stats Round-Up
After Liverpool's last 5-0 win (over Norwich City), I wrote a quick post compiling the best stats from an excellent performance (which you can read here). As they have repeated the trick again today, it'd be rude not to credit them with another round up!
Two of Daniel Sturridge's first three passes created goalscoring opportunities.
Liverpool average 19.2 shots per game this season, more than any other side in Europe's top five leagues. By half time today they'd had 22! Stoke and Reading don't average that many every TWO whole games, and Aston Villa only match it every two.
Liverpool had more shots (35) than any side has managed in a Premier League match this season.
The whole Swansea team created three chances between them; Gerrard, Suárez and Sturridge beat that on their own.
Similarly, Swansea's total of three shots was bettered by five Reds (the above three, plus Coutinho and Downing).
Nine different Liverpool players had a shot today, and seven created a chance.
In total, six different players scored and/or assisted a goal for the Reds. Total football!
The top chance creator in Europe's top five leagues this season (Leighton Baines) averages 3.4 key passes per game. Luis Suárez created EIGHT against the Swans! Remarkably, in his three previous league appearances against Swansea, Suárez had failed to create a single chance.
For the fifth time in his Liverpool career, Luis Suárez both scored and assisted a goal in the same game. Sturridge also achieved this feat today.
Borini and Sturridge scored on their home debuts earlier this season, and Coutinho scored on his first Anfield start today.
Following Coutinho’s goal today, Liverpool have now had eighteen different goalscorers in all competitions this season, which equals the club record. 23 different Reds have scored or provided an assist during this campaign.
Daniel Sturridge now has a goal or assist every 73 minutes in the league for Liverpool.
With the third goal today, Liverpool equalled their league goal scoring tally for the whole of 2011/12.
Liverpool have now scored three-or-more in 30% of their league games this season. The club has only bettered that proportion in three of the last twenty seasons.
Likewise, the Reds have scored four-or-more in 14.8% of their league games in 2012/13. That is a higher percentage than in every single previous Premier League season.
Liverpool scored five goals for the third time in the league this season. They have only scored five three times once in the previous twenty seasons.
Swansea had the best away defence in the league prior to today, and had only conceded two goals on two occasions, otherwise it had been less. Not any more!
The Swans had only conceded ten away from the Liberty Stadium, but the Reds managed to add 50% to that tally in ninety minutes.
Michel Vorm has averaged 3.2 saves per league game this season. He made five today, and still lost 5-0!
Howard Webb has now awarded Liverpool three of their four Premier League penalties this season; the other one was missed. What's the world coming to?!
Liverpool had ten shots on target today, equalling their seasons best in the league (which occurred at home to Sunderland).
The Reds now have ten clean sheets, which is the second most in the Premier League.
Liverpool have improved their league goal scoring rate by 46% on last season. No other side has done so by more than 24%, and the average for the teams aside from the Reds is actually a 1% decrease.
With an average of 1.81 goals scored per league game, the Reds are now scoring more goals than they have in seventeen of the twenty previous Premier League seasons.
Liverpol have now earned seven more points than they got from the corresponding fixtures last season.
And finally, perhaps the best stat of them all:
Liverpool have finally beaten a team in the top half of the Premier League table!
