Is too much made of this issue? I'm guilty of doing that here, of course! But Guéhi's aerial ability seems to be the only thing people talk about with him, at least based on who I follow.

It's a rather important part of a CBs game in the PL and CL to a lesser extent? There's going to be some very good target men playing in the later rounds of the CL and it's a bread and butter ability for evaluating PL CBs.

If we were playing 3CBs, it wouldn't matter as much but, when defending setpieces, if VVD is taken out of the picture, we still have Konate.

I'd not be as confident of our defending if he was beside Big Virgil

Just three 3CBs, I had a reply on Bluesky from a Palace fan along that line:

"at Palace he has two centre backs next to him and Richards absolutely dominates in the air so maybe doesn't show up so much. Never thought of him as bad but certainly the least strong out of the 3."

In the PL data per FBRef, all 3 CBs for Palace were on similar aerial win%, even with Lacroix and Richards at 6'3" and 6'2" respectively. As fabulous as Guehi is on the ground defensively and coming out with the ball, he strikes me as someone who would really get on in the 6 - not for us, mind you, but just in general. Doesn't seem to fit the profile typical of FSG, especially given the price and he'd be 3rd choice, unless they know Konate is moving straightaway. On the size aspect, were he to play on the right side, both he and Frimpong make us much smaller in size so that'd surely be a target area for some opposition. I also wonder about him coming in a WC year and not getting a lot of minutes. Doesn't seem a natural fit across all the circumstances so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I wonder if Richards is viewed as dominant as he's stronger in the penalty box? Sadly it took a long time to get that data for Guéhi alone. Might look into the the other Palace CBs if he actually signs for Liverpool...

Yeah, it seems a strange move for him in a WC year. He's not going to be a starter for us or Arsenal bar sale or injury. It doesn't seem good for us either, going from Konate at 6'4" to Guehi at 6' seems a bit shortsighted

I’m more concerned with the LGBTQ+ issue. But I need to give a young man a chance to learn, too.

That summer where we almost signed Lee Bowyer was rough. But I was moved by a recent interview by a now 40+ year old Bowyer that pleaded “I am still that same person I was twenty years ago.” Fair point, mate
