Selling Suárez Would Be Senseless

There are lots of rumours flying around at present that Manchester City are going to bid to buy Luis Suárez from Liverpool in January.

Whilst they could certainly afford whatever fee FSG deem acceptable, a few statistics I have dug up show why the Reds would be mad to part company with the volatile Uruguayan.

Firstly, at present Luis Suárez averages more key passes & shots per game combined (8.8) than any other player in Europe's top 5 leagues this season. For comparative purposes, the best two players in the world average the following: Cristiano Ronaldo 8.1, Lionel Messi 6.8.

In the Premier League, Suárez is currently ranked top for number of chances created in open play (and third overall), top for number of shots, and joint top for number of goals scored (with Robin van Persie, whose tally includes a penalty, which Luis' does not).

Now granted these figures may be down to Liverpool's over-reliance on Suárez, and the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have numerous other top stars to call upon, but there's no escaping the fact that Suárez is effective.

This is underlined by a look at the Liverpool striker's current form. After a goal and two assists for Uruguay against Poland last night, Suárez now has thirteen goals and four assists in his last seventeen appearances (comprising fifteen starts and two substitute appearances) for club and country.

It doesn't matter how much dough City put on the table, the Reds won't be able to replace that kind of return very easily, even with a couple of new forward players.

He may have "baggage", but selling Suárez would sound the death knell for Liverpool's ambitions to get back in to the top four any time soon, and no amount of oil money can help that.
