I know it's only one game but Lucho has been so important to our season. Despite the oft-repeated criticism of "not enough end product", his goals & goal-contributing actions are better than any LF in the EPL. When compared to LFs in the rest of Europe, I'd only take Vini or Kvara ahead of him. We really have one of the best in the world.
What makes him so rare is that, beyond good production, he's a great footballer, not just a great forward. In particular, his ball progression (thru carries & passes), pass accuracy & positional versatility are so rare and valuable to us. He's also got a work-rate rivaling Dom's for best in the squad, easily one of our best pressers and defenders. This total package is what endears him to our supporters. Pretty sure he's Arne's archetype for a wide forward in his game model.
Imagine his impact next season when we upgrade at left back and center forward!
I can’t pretend I wasn’t a little frustrated at times with Diaz but he had a stunning level of attacking involvement.
I think we all just expected him to skin the giant that he was up against. But his game involves all those other elements you mentioned.

That’s a very good point re other left wingers. There really aren’t many that are much better.
Though the players seem as far apart as their countries of origin, Diaz reminds me of Dirk Kuyt.
Not in touch and skill, of course. But in commitment to win his battles and take on responsibility.
Neither player was the best at the club. But every top team wants a player that can be counted on to win their duels.
Diaz is that fellow. He combines the commitment of Kuyt with the technique of Luis Suarez.
