Getting Salah to get the ball into the box more helps, who knew?!

It helps when he's having one of the greatest output seasons seen from a Liverpool player, of course.

We have to get Mo signed, if Edwards (Or Hughes I guess) are worried about a drop in form there is so far he would have to drop to make that deal a disaster for Liverpool. Slot has made him to focal point in our attack, losing him shouldn't even be an option when the player wants to be here.

Definitely. I think he’ll stay, it just needs the wrinkles to be ironed out.

Give Mo his dough! Absolutely irreplaceable. As much FSG's data driven model gets lauded, we also got insanely lucky in the transfer market in the late 2010s, snapping up generational talents such as Mo, Virgil, Allison and Mane. Mo and Mane are among the two best attackers to have ever played for the club and none of the attackers we have signed Mo have gotten anywhere close to their peaks. We have to do all we can to ensure that Mo stays with us for 3-4 more years cause it is easy to see him having a similar output till he is 35-36 (look at Lewandowski, Cristiano and Messi etc).

Love it, who needs xG!?

Are passes, open play crosses and carries into opp. box also correlating with more runs into the box? I assume it is, it certainly 'feels' like it (esp from our midfielders and our full-backs making lots of underlapping runs) but I wonder by how much more than our previous averages?

Sadly, off-ball run data is not available anywhere publicly (I don’t think). I remember reading Nunez was really strong for them but I only see the odd reference to the data now and again in various articles. I’m inclined to agree, though, they feel more prevalent this season.

I don’t think Salah would be able to do the pressing required for the 9 role these days. Jota and Núñez are pressing more than they did last season, whereas Gakpo and Salah are doing less (https://open.substack.com/pub/andrewbeasley/p/liverpools-pressing-under-arne-slot-and-the-mohamed-salah-impact). Or perhaps a better way to frame it is that while he might be able to do it, it feels likely you wouldn’t get the best of him on the ball as a result.
