Definitely one that has a lot of people intrigued I bet. Good choice of topic.
After the Chelsea game I was eager for Jones to replace him for the Arsenal game. While that might have been the wrong game to judge by but I did feel we lacked a lot defensively without him.
Conventional wisdom suggests we should expect more goal activity from him but at the same time I'd be very reluctant to make changes to a team that's performing so well.
Could it be similar to when Firmino completely changed how we think a center forward should play? Could Dom and Slot be redefining how a number 10 operates?
Maybe. But then again I still think he operates in areas where he should be able to create/score more... A conundrum indeed.
After the first part of last season, I thought he was the second coming of Kevin DeBruyne!
But after watching him this season, I am thinking he is the second coming of Gini Wijnaldum.
Last season tells me there is more in the player than he has shown this year. But the success of the team when his on the pitch, as you pointed out, makes me very relaxed whenever he plays knowing he is doing the dirty work so others can be the DeBruynes.
Nice to see stats backing up what we're seeing but there is a fantastic footballer in there capable of moments of magic. Effort will never be an issue so he'll continue to contribute in any case

An interesting idea re redefining the 10 role, they could do the hard yards to take some of the burden off the centre forward.

The Transfer Flow have written about Curtis Jones today. His radar compared to Szoboszlai’s is certainly interesting (better) https://bsky.app/profile/basstunedtored.bsky.social/post/3law5yrekkk2v
Fascinated to hear what people think about Szoboszlai this season….
