Hopefully the rarity of midfielders scoring goals and setting them up will be a thing of the past. Either way, isn't Gravenberch in the form of his life? What a player.

Also: I made an audio version of this article. Unlikely to be a regular thing but if you want a 'podcast' version, here it is! https://www.andrewbeasleyfootball.com/p/the-match-the-stat-the-podcast-liverpool-2-1-everton

Hopefully, Richard Hughes has already initiated talks to extend Ryan. He is proving a world-class status each week and now adding goals / chances with the new positional freedom. A rare talent who's foundational to LFC 2.0.

Gravenberch, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai all have three years to go on their deals, it’d be nice to think all sign extensions by the end of next summer.

I hope all 3 sign as well but I wouldn't bet on it. As we're learning from the situations with Trent, Luis & Ibou, it takes two to get it done. All three midfielders will command market-leading base salary (before bonuses) and Hughes is unlikely to pay that to all 3.

Macca will be 31yo at the end of a 4YR extension if signed next summer (vs 29yo for Dom & 27yo for Ryan). Macca feels a lot like Luis' situation where Hughes was unwilling to offer an extension & "happy to see him leave on a free", which would be summer 2028 (or earlier if a club offers £££). Bummer, but I get the logic.

As much as I love Mac, he feels like the least essential of the three if two were to be retained long term.
